FAQs
What about copyright protection?
We totally get it - sharing your creativity is a leap of faith and we've all heard horror stories. At the very start of working together, we will provide a mutual NDA for peace of mind and to protect both parties. Your intellectual property (IP) will always be your own.
What exactly is Intellectual Property (IP)?
The term "IP" is often thrown around these days, so this is a great question. The definition here, in the UK, concerns the protection of "something (a story, an artistic work, a design, an invention, a symbol, etc...) that you create with your mind." When it comes to media, IP is commonly used to describe a creative property with multiple platforms and monetisations. For example, the Star Wars IP (its characters, designs, music) that have been disseminated across screens, toys, events and even food via licensing or partnerships.
My work isn't genre! Do I need to be creating the next MCU or Game of Thrones?
Absolutely not. Just because you don't have robots, space travel, magic, superheroes or [insert genre trope here] doesn't mean your story, characters or the world they inhabit can't be developed into truly loved IP. Take the BBC's Call the Midwife, for example, or HBO's The White Lotus. These are well-developed IP with cultural cachet and depth that almost become "brands" in their own right.
Why is developing my Intellectual Property (IP) advantageous?
For some creators, developing and selling an impactful, buzzy, one-off film or series is the goal. If you get a break out hit, such as Netflix's Baby Reindeer, it's a career defining moment that opens doors to more opportunities and income. For other creators, you may be more inclined to go in deep on one big idea or concept. If you live and breathe a particular ensemble of characters, or time period, or place/world, developing your IP to work across multiple mediums gives you more income streams and control.
I'm a writer or creator. Do I need a producer or agent to work with you?
No! But if that's something you want to achieve, we can include resources and advice for finding your perfect champions in our tailored strategy service.
Will Rebel Muse produce my IP with me?
If we feel that your project is a great fit for our mission, we may bring a development deal or option to the table, for the opportunity to work with you as a producer or co-producer. This isn't guaranteed, nor do we expect you to accept our offer if we do make it!
Are there any projects you won't develop?
We will only decline to work on projects that don't fit with our ethics and values. Or, now and again, similar ideas seem to float around the ether at the same time - if we happen to already be developing a property with too much common ground to yours, we will issue you a full refund and recommend you to another trusted expert from our network. We want you to succeed no matter what!
