The Christmas film for       SINGLE WOMEN

When a cancer diagnosis disrupts her life, Lissie’s unplanned reunion with old friends turns into a wild Bridget Jones-inspired quest, filled with unexpected confessions, a race against time, and proof that the truest romance is found in female friendship.

Single women are the fastest growing demographic in the US, and there are over 4.9 million unmarried women aged 25-39 in the UK . This huge audience does not have a Christmas film to make them feel seen.

Enter SPINSTERS, the holiday film that centres the beautiful romance of female friendship.

The
     STORY

Lissie is a 30-something career girl with no dating prospects. Yep, she might as well be a rom-com stereotype! That is until a curveball called cervical cancer shakes up her pity party. Turns out she might've been right to fear dying alone... At least she has her cat?

Her meddling mother has other ideas. Lissie's quiet New Year’s Eve turns into a chaotic reunion, as friends she'd lost touch with turn up on her doorstep. It's like they've never been apart - how can Lissie kill the mood and tell them she's sick?!

Embracing the spirit of their icon Bridget Jones, the four of them embark on a quest to reclaim lost time, facing off in the 'Bridget Olympics' for letters from their past selves. Cue big revelations and even bigger undies.

But amidst the laughter and knicker-flashing, Lissie realises her biggest regret isn't the wrong men, but the right friends she left behind. These women, turns out, were the loves of her life!

As fireworks light up the sky, secrets spill. Lissie's honesty sparks a midnight row and a messy food fight. When she is finally able to drop the tough-girl act, it's knickers-to-the-rescue as Nat races through London to be by her side at the hospital, proving that true romance is showing up for your friends, even in your undies, no matter what.

Financial
      PLAN

Happily, SPINSTERS meets the criteria for the BFI's Enhanced Independent Film Tax Credit, at a net rate of 39.75%. We will produce the film through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) in which investors will hold equity and recoup through net profits.

Our recoupment timeline is as follows.

6-12 months from film completion:

  • 39.75% tax credit received

    • Split between investors and producer pari passu as per SPV equity

9-18 months from film completion:

Revenue from Theatrical Sales + Streaming Licensing Deal

  • Distributors fee (10-30%)

    • Sales Agents fee (10-15%)

      • Recoupable expenses from marketing, sales & distribution

12-24 from film completion we will break even, and profits are then allocated thus:

  • Debt & deferments (if applicable - our plan does not include debt equity at this stage)

    • Equity investors

      • Producer (Rebel Muse Studios)

      PROJECTIONS

Film investment is high risk, with many contributing factors. However, we have strong conviction in our story and market size.

UK Domestic Box Office Projections:

4.9 million target audience x 5% conversion rate = 245,000 tickets sold

Average UK cinema price of £7.92 x 245,000 = £1,940,400

Minus cinemas' 40% = £1,164,240

Minus distribution & sales costs at max estimate of 45% = £640,332

Domestic Box Office Gross Profit of £640,332

Our expectation is to break even through UK theatrical and make a healthy profit through Global Box Office and Streaming Licensing Deals. Key territories with a significant single culture include:

  • USA

  • Japan

  • South Korea

  • Canada

  • Northern & Western Europe

Minus distribution and sales fees/expenses, we stand to take home a healthy 35% of global sales.

As a Christmas film, we will be well-positioned for repeat royalties from TV and streamer licensing deals every year.

Marketing                     STRATEGY

We have a well-developed marketing strategy already underway, to build audience demand ahead of our theatrical release.

Prequel Content

We are scripting and planning "prequel" social media content for our 4 lead characters, which will be uploaded to fictional profiles on Instagram and TikTok. (These will be clearly marked as #ad to adhere to T&Cs). This content will establish the characters in the audience's minds and invest them in what happens next.

Community WhatsApp Group

Followers will be invited to join the Spinsters community group, where they will get exclusive first looks, input on creative decisions and chances to win tickets.

Panel Discussion Events

SPINSTERS covers themes of huge importance to its audience. We will organise panel talks with special screenings around the topics of friendship, financial independence, motherhood/fertility, and female entrepreneurship.

New Years Eve Women-Only Screening & Party

Our film is set over NYE, lending itself to special events for women to watch the film in fancy dress, in a safe space, then dance the night away into the new year.
